It was on March 23 , 2003 when a Young Indian side was going to face the defending Champions of the ICC world cup . Winning the toss Captain Sourav Ganguly invited the Aussies to bat first . This indeed the invitation of destruction of the Indian bowling lineup . After the opening partnership of 105 runs , a storm named Ricky Ponting entered the field . Ponting on that day was in a different level , he started hitting the Indian bowlers to each and every corner of the park . It was as if he was batting against the net bowlers and he outplayed the Indian bowling attack scoring an unbeaten 140 off just 121 deliveries with 8 sixes and 4 fours . In response of the mamoth chase of 360 , India fell down for just 234 .
What became the point of discussion after the match was Ricky Ponting's Innings , many people conspired the fact that Ricky Ponting used a spring bat in that particular Innings . A spring bat is a special type of bat loaded with shock absorbers(dampers) and vibration reducing technology . These bats were used in many cases in practice sessions for high catch practice . A ball hit by a spring bat was said to travel much higher and further as compared to a normal bat .
Almost a week after the final match , an article came up in a eminent Indian daily in which it was mentioned that ICC announced a rematch of the final and Ponting is charged of using a spring bat . This made the day for Indian fans but this joy was a short lived one . Upon reading the entire article the hope was shattered by reading the last line - "April Fool" .
Yes ! That was just a rumor which was not true and till date it has been one of the biggest rumor of the cricket world . But yes it was in 2005 that some Australian cricketers were investigated by ICC for using a new design of Kookaburra bat which had a graphite lining at the back of the bat . That particular model was banned by ICC and the players were also released later .

Virat Kohli has been an integral part of the Indian Cricket team since his debut in 2008 . Theres no need to mention that he has immensely contributed to the team as a player . His responsibility for the Indian cricket team doubled when he took over the limited overs captaincy from MS Dhoni in 2017 .
As a captain too he has many achievements like winning test series in Australia , winning limited overs in away nations etc , but the thing which comes in everybody's mind when one speaks about his captaincy is his ICC trophy drought .
This led many cricket fans to demand for a new captain , and so lets have a look at the matches/series where Virat Kohli was rested and the vice captain of Indian team took over as the captain .
Without Kohli , India played 4 tests , 8 ODIs and 12 T20Is .

In the Border-Gavaskar series 2020-21 , cricket fans all over the world witnessed the bench strength of the India team for the first time . This was the best ever set of benched players who went on to defeat Australia at the Gabba . Later on the Indian Selection board went on to the next level by announcing a series against the Sri Lankan national team where the Second Playing 11 of India will play. the main question that arises here is that , How did India manage to get so many players capable of playing at the International level ? what's the reason behind the bench strength ?
There are several factors responsible for this , Let's look on the main 3 reasons :
i) Population
This is a trivial reason for the arrival of lots and lots of tallents in the Indian Cricket . India has a population of nearly 1.3 billion and as per a survey conducted by the Government of India there are approximately 5,45,93,224 people playing cricket in India . This includes players of National team , Domestic cricket teams and as well as the people who aspire to become cricketers . Also the domestic and sub division players are guided by good coaches , support staffs and as well as the management .
ii) The Indian Premier League
Agree or not but the IPL is majorly responsible for the rise of numerous cricketers not only from India but also from other countries in this decade . The IPL provides a much needed platform for the players to compete and play against best cricketers of the world . This is such a bowler where a domestic lad gets the privilege to hit a boundary of worlds best bowlers like Steyn , Boult , Warne , McGrath , Cummins and also to take the wickets of worlds eminent batsmen like Tendulkar , Ponting , Kohli , Pitersen , Dhoni .
iii) Rahul Dravid

Cri Tick brings up the list of best ODI batsman from each of the 12 test playing nations . It's a really difficult task to compare between different players (especially from the different periods) so it might be possible that your favourite batsman is not in the list . The main parameter of comparison is batting average along with number of matches played , which really proves the consistency of a player .
